One Hundred and Sixty years ago, the 62nd Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, as part of the 2nd Brigade, 1st Division, Fifth Corps, Army of the Potomac were on the march from Virginia to Pennsylvania…on the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd of July, 1863, the great and terrible Battle of Gettysburg would take place…the Fifth Corps would see much action on July 2nd, including the “whirlpool of death”–the battle in and around the Rose Farm, and the Wheatfield…
On Saturday, July 1st, 2023, the 62nd Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry Living History Family will return to the Wheatfield, to honor the brave men of the regiment…according to our tradition, we will conduct a brief ceremony, sharing some personal accounts from the men who fought there, paying tribute to those who died there, and placing a sheave of wheat in remembrance…
We plan to start the tribute at 10 AM, lasting approximately 30-45 minutes…
Please join us if you can…please check the NPS Gettysburg website regarding some road closures and alerts…
Otherwise, pray for us as we travel to Gettysburg, that we may properly honor them, and return safely to our homes…we will try to get caught up with some stories and photos from this weekend, as well as a few recent events…
May God bless…
